Behind the Yellow Line“I know nothing except the fact of my ignorance.”-Socrates

I am a work of art. A creation made by awesome Hands, uniquely and beautifully made. Everyone is the same I, human yet wonderfully different and equally special.

It is just such great fascination that even with the billions of people on this earth not any two human beings look, think, act, & feel the exact same way. Sometimes I like to ponder on the thought that somewhere out there I have a “double ganger”, living the life I have and sharing the identity I have. There are days when I think I have lost myself that I do not know who I am anymore. I could be delirious or just plain stupid. Because setting aside everything else, I think I am seriously torn between my biological roots and the motherland I grew up in. Every drop of blood in my veins is Chinese, even my physical features evidently tells me so. But I was born and raised in a land not of my own heritage and descent, the land known in Asia as the “Pearl of the Orient”. I speak in three languages (one of which in three native dialects) — English, Chinese and Filipino, none of which I could fully express myself in. I am immersed in the culture of eating balut and close family ties, yet I long to journey to my lost roots of steamed dumplings and kick a** kung fu. I am Chinese but I barely know any history of ancient China, and I can’t exactly claim to be a Filipino when I am not even wellversed with Tagalog. So I do not exactly understand why I am here but I am thankful for who I am and who I have become because of all the influences I was exposed to. I am who I am. If am a color, I am neither black.

Rediscovering the Red Giant in me

Nor white, I could be grey or orange or any other secondary or tertiary color in the color wheel. I am a half-baked macaroni or a medium rare steak. The Philippines labels foreigners in their nation as “Aliens”, maybe I am an alien, an extra terrestrial entity from outer space, or a new breed of human being or a new generation of merged cultures. Anyhow I do not despise my heritage or who I have become because of how I was raised. In fact, I am proud of who I am. But of course I would love to discover more about the traditions and customs of the two nations I am most closely to. I would surely be glad if I will be knowledgeable enough to talk about the Three Kingdoms of China or the secret revolutions of the socalled Indios. Excitement reaches as I realize I have still so much to learn about. Life is sweet and my youth has a long way to go. So let my journey begin. “People see only what they are prepared to see.”- Emerson
